How will this change affect me?
The next year will be a time of transition for all of us as we migrate from the existing tool to the new system. To make this transition easier for the user, OIT has designed a phased migration plan. This process will happen over several months, ending on June 30, 2007. This should give course designers adequate time to learn the new system and complete any modifications to their courses.
- If you are an existing WebCT user teaching a course this spring (2007), you may continue to use WebCT throughout terms this term.
- During Spring 2007, WebCT course files (contained in the MyFiles folder of Manage Files) will be copied over to the ELMS server to a folder you will be able to access. You will be notified by email when this process is to be scheduled for your course(s). At that time, additional information will be provided. Be aware that your WebCT course(s) will continue to exist after the WebCT–>ELMS copy process, until the end of the Spring 2007 term.
- Because only files in MyFiles are copied over, it will still be necessary for you to link those files into the appropriate ELMS course space you request so that your students can view them, and complete any other course set-up tasks, such as creating discussion forums, adding columns to the gradebook, transferring quizzes and/or surveys, etc. Note: Quizzes and Surveys can be transferred with Respondus. Email elms@umd.edu for more information.
- If you wish to create a new course on ELMS now, you may go to the Request Course form (you will need to login first), to request a new ELMS course. Refer to the Faculty Resources tab at http://elms.umd.edu for more information on using ELMS.
- By the end of the Spring 2007 Term, all WebCT course files that will have been copied to ELMS.
